Max

Max was a stray that wandered around in the woods alone for weeks before he was picked up by the Mat-Su Animal Shelter. He was posted for adoption just days before Thanksgiving and with a $5 adoption fee he was at high risk of being killed. Instead Max was brought to Sanctuary to keep Fawkes (another Thanksgiving turkey, rescued the same weekend) from being lonely.

Fawkes

When a local poultry farm put on a contest for a free thanksgiving turkey, the winner didn't have the heart to have her killed so Fawkes was brought to the Sanctuary instead to live out a full life and the rescuer ate Tofurkey instead! Fawkes is named after the phoenix in Harry Potter and after the Anonymous for the Voiceless icon: Guy Fawkes.
